16 - 20 July 1985 - The Recruiting Officer by George Farquhar Performed in the sunken gardens at Ashton Court, Bristol. Photographs by Roger Gilmore.
The action takes place in and around the area of Bristol in the year 1706. The play tells a story of love and romance centred on the lives of two women and two men. They have obstacles to overcome before they can declare their love for one another, in the shape of overbearing relatives. It is set in the time of war in the 18th century, when morals were much stricter and people married in their "class". However, love wins over social status, and everyone lives happily ever after. |
